The crowning achievement of Oswal Mitra Mandal is the Jaipur Foot Project. The Mandal has been instrumental in establishing the Jaipur Foot Centre at J.J. Hospital, Mumbai. This centre, established on lst March 1984 with the assistance of Shri D. R. Mehta of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti has been providing thousands of artificial limbs, free of cost, to amputees.
The success of Jaipur Foot Project has prompted the establishment of other units at Civil Hospital Thane, commissioned on 11th January 1985 and another centre at Municipal Hospital, Dombivli on 19th November 1994.
In addition to the activities at the centre, the Mandal has organised free Jaipur Foot camps at Nasik, Rajnandgaon, Kolhapur, Satara, Pune, Jalna, Achalpur, etc. The field of activities of the Mandal is not restricted only to the Indian Soil. It extended the services of Jaipur foot even to South East Asian countries like Manila, Bangkok, Mauritius etc., thanks to philanthropists and donor organisations, who have supported this humanitarian cause.
The Jaipur Foot activity is also being carried on at Dondaiche in Dhulia district in Maharashtra with the support of Rotary Club of Dondaiche. Since inception more than 11500 Jaipur foots have been fitted free of cost at the centre as well as at camps held in India as well as overseas. We are grateful to Shri D.R.Mehtasahab & Master Ramchandraji Sharma for extending their support to the Mandal’s Jaipur Foot Project.
The significant feature of Jaipur Foot is that it is light in weight and yet strong. The person fitted with this foot is no longer physically disabled in any way, but can easily activate himself to climb a tree, or a mountain, to drive a car or even sit cross legged.
The smiling faces of the differently abled expressing hope and confidence is the only reward we look forward to.
